Job summary

The Electro-Mechanical Maintenance Technician I is responsible for troubleshooting and performing installations, and repairs on all facilities and production equipment. The position requires the ability to modify, rebuild, repair, or overhaul both mechanical and electrical equipment and controls to resolve equipment malfunctions.

Summary of essential job functions

  • Responsible for the preventative maintenance, cleaning, lubrication, and greasing of various shop equipment, tanks, and tools.
  • Provide emergency/unscheduled repairs of production equipment during production and performs scheduled maintenance repairs of production equipment during machine service
  • Support and assist with automation projects and machine enhancements through fabrication, assembly and installation of parts and devices to new and existing equipment
  • Perform installations, maintenance and repair in functional areas
  • Perform tasks from blueprints, diagrams, layouts, schematics and/or specifications
  • Inspect and troubleshoot malfunctioning systems and equipment to diagnose cause of trouble and make repairs as necessary
  • Use a variety of hand tools and instruments such as feeler gauges, micrometers, force indicators, electric meters, and optical flat instruments to diagnose, dismantle and repair equipment.
  • Perform machinist duties and responsibilities related to operating a lathe, drill press, surface grinder, milling machine and other equipment
  • A thorough knowledge of all components and systems and a working knowledge of how to identify deficiencies in mechanical, structural, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems and components.
  • Able to repair or replace mechanical components including but not limited to bearings, oil and mechanical seals, gears, sprockets, chains, sheaves, and belts.


  • Test systems and equipment for efficiency and adherence to codes
  • Familiar with various software programs for troubleshooting PLCs and CNC equipment.
  • Engineer equipment, machine and systems relocations and installations as needed
  • Provide occasional leadership, instruction and training to co-workers and others involved in assigned projects as needed
  • Initiate improvements resulting in increased functional efficiency, improved safety, and cost savings
  • Follow all prescribed safety rules and regulations
  • Keep work area clean and orderly
  • Performs related duties as assigned by leadership


Minimum requirements

  • Full knowledge of all related safety and code requirements. Maintain clean and orderly work areas.
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) along with related trade school education, apprenticeship and/or experience. Previously demonstrated broad electrical & mechanical expertise related to plant equipment, CNC equipment, electrical controls, hydraulic equipment, and welding. A Formal certification in a recognized discipline, or an AA degree in mechanical, electrical, or industrial maintenance a plus
  • A thorough knowledge of mechanical and electrical controls, hydraulic and pneumatic systems, fabrication, machining, welding, plumbing, heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration. Must possess capabilities and technical expertise in a professional manner both verbally.
  • Computer experience and PLC/CNC programming are necessary.
  • 5-15 years of uninterrupted service resulting in extensive company-specific knowledge of the systems and infrastructure related to the specific areas of expertise (i.e. hydraulic, pneumatic, mechanical, electrical, CNC and PLC systems, HVAC, manufacturing systems and equipment, etc.)
  • May direct the activities of a trainee and instruct personnel assigned to a specific area

Abilities required

  • Able to work independently under general direction with minimal supervision
  • Able to demonstrate a high level of ownership on all assignments and projects
  • Requires a high level of experience-based proficiency in troubleshooting and problem solving
  • Computer skills including MS Office and AutoCAD
  • Ability to lift 40 lbs.
